The Medical Escort was happy for Roger to fly home but she wasn’t going to let him return to his home where he lived alone.

While he was in India, he had a full-time carer who stayed with him in the hospital, as well as, the hospital staff who checked in on him and gave him treatment etc.

We had asked some family members in the UK to help find a suitable care home for a short stay but understandably, they weren’t willing to take a new resident without assessing them in person.

Luckily, the Medical Escort knew someone in one of the homes that the family were looking into. She asked them to agree to assess Roger via a video call.

We were so relieved when they agreed to accept him as a resident.

Now for another hurdle! They felt that the medication labels were different from those used in the UK and wanted the information to be stated differently. This felt impossible! Everything was happening so quickly, and there wasn’t much time before we were due to fly out!

  • The Medical Escort left the UK on the 28th
  • She assessed Roger on the 29th
  • We were due to leave India on the 30th
  • If the airline let Roger board, we would land on the same day

So after 11 p.m., on the night before we were due to leave, we were trying to get alternative labels done for the many types of medication that Roger was taking. Luckily, we managed it! We took a video describing the medication, the dosage and the frequency and we sent it to the family members so they could share it with the staff in the care home.

After we arrived at Heathrow airport, we went straight to the home.
