The travel insurance provider arranged for us to have a call with a medical expert so that they could assess Roger’s health over the phone.
I thought this would be the end of it but they explained that we couldn’t return until a Medical Escort assessed him in person. They had organised the phone assessment to prevent sending someone out unnecessarily.
After the Medical Escort landed, she came straight to the hospital. She did a thorough assessment and gave Roger the all-clear to fly home. However, she explained that in the past, she had been in a situation where the airline refused the passenger even though the Medical Escort felt that they were safe to fly! I’m grateful that she was trying to manage our expectations. All we could do was get to the airport and hope for the best.
After she gave us the green light to fly, I assumed our next steps would be booking tickets and packing. However, this wasn’t the case.
