Have you heard of the vegan pledge?

There are three levels to this pledge. It’s all about non-vegans becoming vegan for a specific amount of time – one week, fourteen days or one month

Bronze
I’m belting for bronze. I want to vote with my knife and fork against animal cruelty, environmental destruction and world hunger. I pledge to eat only vegan food for 7 days.

Silver
I’m seeking silver. I want to vote with my knife and fork against animal cruelty, environmental destruction and world hunger. I pledge to eat only vegan food for 14 days.

Gold
I’m going for gold. I want to vote with my knife and fork against animal cruelty, environmental destruction and world hunger. I pledge to eat only vegan food for 30 days.

The Vegan Society are offering mentors, a vegan pledge pack with recipes and guidance and plenty of support. If you would like to find out more please contact the Vegan Society office: info@vegansociety.com or 0121 523 1735/6.

If you decide to take the pledge, simply fill out the pre-pledge questionnaire below and return it via email or through the post. The Vegan Society have asked that you try and answer it as fully as possible but they also accept and understand that there may be some questions that you can’t/don’t want to answer. This is fine! Once received, they will then email a pledge pack which includes an introductory letter with starting tips, a list of vegan products and a guide to being vegan.  They can also hook you up with a mentor. The mentor would be someone who is vegan and happy to help with any questions you have. Of course, the Vegan Society are also happy to answer questions as well.

Once you have completed the pledge, we will send you a post-pledge questionnaire and once that is filled in you will receive a certificate.

So what do you think? Can you do it?

Here’s some info re staying well whilst following a veggie/vegan diet: –

This is a summary of what was said at London Vegan’s meeting. The following info has been provided by Mahersh: –

There were some very important messages:
– the importance of receiving a good intake of Omega-3 to reduce one’s
“Omega-6/Omega-3 ratio” from around 10/15-to-1 to around 4-to-1 or less. The speaker suggests freshly ground flax seeds are one of the best plant sources, and we should eat some daily.

– importance of receiving an adequate intake of vitamin B12, and why B12 is so important.

– plus other important point, all based on studies carried out over long periods of time on the health of people eating a vegetarian/vegan diet.

If you’d like to listen to the talk, it is the available at this link: http://www.drgreger.org/talks/

The title of the talk we listened to was “Optimal Vegetarian Nutrition” but there are four others there too.

Best wishes,
Mahersh
